I believe the cost of sending SMS through a gateway costs about half what a regular sms costs in my scenario. But then you also have to factor in the cost of the data traffic - it's not many bytes, but some operators charge pr minute in addition to the bytes. To further complicate matters you can get subscription with unlimited data traffic and sms driving the costs furher down.
